Breasts are the organs that complete the physical appearance of the woman body. The breasts may be structurally different. There may some physical problems and appearance problems. Nowadays, there are no other options other than silicone prostheses in order to equalize or increase the volume of both breasts. Breast augmentation surgeries with one's own tissues have been tried, but have failed. In terms of breast prostheses, the basic substance is silicone on the outer surface of the prosthesis.
For patients who will have prosthesis, before the surgery, with mammography and ultrasonography the tissue of the breast should be evaluated. Edema and pain on the breast area are the symptoms can be seen after the surgery. Surgical bleeding and infection are rare. Some patients complain about increased or decreased sensitivity on the nipple after surgery or numbness around the incision. This is usually temporary. It has been suggested that some connective tissue diseases develop in the body against a prosthesis (connective tissue disease), being difficult to give milk to baby and the prosthesis causes cancer. None of these have been scientifically proven.
In terms of breast augmentation surgery, there may be problems with the prosthesis, as the breast enlargement can be achieved with a foreign substance for the body. A contracture due to the development of a membrane called capsule may develop around the prosthesis. There is no choice but to remove a prosthesis when severe capsular contracture occurs. The outer surface of silicone prostheses is very thin but highly resistant to external impacts. Normal and moderate massages do not hurt. The person can lay face after 2 months of surgery. Rupture of the prosthesis is a rare occurrence, and may be caused by high falls, and device injuries. There is nothing to be afraid of if a physiologically-inflated prosthesis is used. In the case of a breast with a silicon breast prosthesis, the development of cancer (the risk of cancer occurring as the same as non-prosthetic breasts), surgery for cancer, and other forms of treatment are applied according to standards.
